Sony: Words Don’t Have Any Meaning Beyond What We Say They Have

Sony PR: Up and down have been ‘upgraded’ with new meanings

Sony: ‘upgrading’ the English language when it suits their needs:

But Sony is standing fast, insisting it has done nothing wrong as the company’s PR head honcho David Wilson told us. “We do understand the frustration a small number of consumers may feel at SCE’s decision to provide an upgrade to the firmware to disable the Linux operating system but we refute any suggestion that this action is in any way a contravention of the terms of Sale of Goods Act,” he said.

Wow, how about that: taking stuff away is considered an upgrade for the boys down at Sony’s wind tunnel division!

In fact, now that I have this newfound information, it puts a whole new spin on, well, everything:

*Stars Wars Episode 1-3 were massive upgrades to the vastly superior original trilogy.
*Van Halen was upgraded enormously when Gary Cherone took over from Sammy Hagar.
*The GameCube experienced a huge upgrade when Nintendo stripped out component video functionality.
*Napoleon’s defeat at Waterloo? An epic upgrade from victory to crushing defeat. (Also see: Hannibal’s crushing, elephantine, upgrade.)
*The PS3 was vastly upgraded to fewer features when backwards compatibility was removed.
*RROD on 360? Upgrade. (MS needs to hire this guy ASAP.)
*Lloyd’s chances with Mary after her husband was found was a huge upgrade to his situation.
*Sony’s desperate attempts at deflection and pathetic evasions, mangling the language while lying through their teeth is an upgrade to being honest and forthright with their customers. (Oh wait: they’d have had to have been generally honest to begin with so, yeah, never mind.)
