When the NGPC came out (and its B&W predecessor) I was a pretty big fan and we (at GameFan) covered the device pretty heavily, especially compared to our competition who gave it about as much love as they did Dreamcast.3 (Which is to say: none.)

The funny thing is, not a single game on that list ever got shown to the press, at least in the West, even though it’s a very sizable one leading me to believe that these were all a long, long ways off in the future, if there was even a single line of code written for any of them.

It’s really too bad some of these games never made it because it would have meant the only actual sequels to games like Windjammers, Magician Lord and Ikari Warriors4 that we could likely ever expect to get our filthy, SNK-loving, mitts on, so peruse the list and dream another (blessedly free of fighting games) dream with me…

1 Dead on Arrival not Dead or Alive.
2 So ill-fated, that even its Wikipedia article is awful.
3 Revisionist history of how everyone loved the DC being what it is, you might think the magazines/sites were full-throated in their support of it and you’d be very, very wrong–most of them were helping Sony by actively heaping dirt on its grave almost from day one.
4 An argument could be made that Shock Troopers 1 and 2 were sequels to Ikari Warriors.

IQ on the Neo-Geo Pocket? Oh man, that just HURTS. World Heroes Pocket would have been extremely welcome, too… the only thing better than watching Rasputin drag his opponent into a flower garden for some lovin’ is watching him do it as a pale munchkin!

      Yeah, more IQ good 😦

I don’t know how I feel about mad dwarf lovin’, tho…

I would kill for a backlit version of the NGPC. Arc the Lad 2? Huh?

I remember the only info I could get on NGP games was a column or two tucked away in a magazine called DCUK or the odd review in Gamesmaster. I never really knew what was coming out, I’d just go into a shop and see what had a nice cover. Never played a bad game on the console.
