Understanding Modern Game Devs

Overheard, in reference to the recently revealed Goldeneye, exclusively on Wii:

Just got done talking about Goldeneye:

Co-worker: “so they’re sticking this on a system that only little kids play?”1

That right there, folks, is a man desperately looking to be out of work. On the upside, tho, he’s fully paid-up on his groupthink dues, albeit he’s still reading from 2007’s script.

I think the current version goes: Nintendo is doomed because they secretly funnel their profits into R&D to supply the Illuminati with weaponry derived from a crashed flying saucer with which to arm the lizard people with the ultimate goal of taking over the world. But they didn’t count on one thing standing in the way of their mad scheme: Sony and MS fanboys are onto them! (But wait: with Move and Natal Kinect, have they, too, been co-opted! Stay tuned!)

And don’t kid yourself: that is the general mindset of the vast, vast majority of the dev teams out there in gaming land, and precisely why companies like EA, Namco, and pretty much all the rest of them are losing their asses.

1 BTW, Einstein, the N64 was far, far more of a ‘kids’ machine than the Wii has ever been, but don’t let reality intrude on your pleasant little fantasy world.

Thank the stars you have this crusade to wave your wii in the ignorant faces of the hardcore, the devs and the so-called game journalists. I don’t know what you’d do with all that righteous rage otherwise!

Probably something legitimately constructive like world domination, so count your lucky stars!

Would you be The Brain or Invader Zim?
